AO-0110 — Airport Safety Enhanced by Prediction and by Detection of Adverse Traffic Patterns based on Ground Surveillance
Appropriate safety alerts are provided to the Tower Ground Controller by an ATC Tower System incorporating advanced tools for ground traffic prediction and detection of possibly conflicting movements of mobiles on taxiways and aprons.
- Rationale
- There is a need for a safety net that will detect conflicts on taxiways and in apron areas at an airport and is purely based on surveillance information and the knowledge of the airport layout. Such a safety net will provide a final layer of safety to tower controllers at any airport with sufficient surveillance (SMR). Alerts will integrate well with alerts of other safety nets that are based on planned trajectories and deviations from the planning. As an additional factor, the safety net will be able to work with different alert thresholds in predicted hotspot areas.
