AO-0216 — Enhanced Runway Condition Awareness

Runway safety and resilience to adverse weather event are improved thanks to awareness on runway current and possibly forecast condition. Advanced systems (e.g. built-in runway sensors, runway condition models, weather observation and forecast, trajectory at landing observed from surveillance radar data, runway conditions observed by landing aircraft) and tools will provide airport with continuous assessment of runway condition to disseminate runway condition report.

Rationale
Enhancement in runway condition awareness will improve runway safety by preventing runway excursion and potentially increase runway throughput by avoiding to trigger runway inspections/testing. Airport resilience to adverse weather event should also be improved by permitting schedule and coordination when runway treatment is needed.
