Aerodrome Control Service is provided by a remote/secondary facility at large airports (with several runways) in a contingency situation where the primary ATC Tower is not useable.
- Rationale
- The remote tower operations in contingency solutions ensure that ATS can maintain a higher capacity than existing contingency solutions or provide a more cost effective solution where no contingency exists (that would result in a closure of the ordinary tower). In contrast to contingency solutions for small to medium airport (with single main runway), a high traffic volume needs to be controlled (with several controllers).
