AOM-0604 — Enhanced terminal operations with LPV using SBAS

SBAS supports RNP Approaches to LPV minima which can be as low as 200ft, equivalent to ILS Cat I. These can provide a back-up for precision approaches at airfields equipped with ILS or a replacement for conventional non-precision approaches.

Rationale
At airports where only NPA is currently feasible, implementation of LPV approaches will provide improvements in terms of safety and airport accessibility. At airports with ILS the LPV approaches will allow a reasonable capacity to be maintained even in the case of an ILS outage.
